Oral Medicine

"Oral medicine" in its broadest sense might be defined as that area of dentistry  that concentrates on diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal disease, diagnosis and treatment of  other oral complaints that may reflect either local oral disease or oral manifestation of systemic problems and those phases of dental practice that are especially concerned with dental treatment of physiologically compromised patients.
It can also be defined as diagnosis and treatment of oral lesions as well as non surgical management of tempromandibular joint disorders and facial pain and dental treatment for medically compromised patients in an outpatient sitting or in an inpatient sitting under general anesthesia, including speciality care in periodontics and endodontics.
Oral medicine is that speciality of dentistry pertaining to the pathophysiology of oral diseases and medical- dental relationships.Oral medicine relates to the definative diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary oropharyngeal mucosal diseases as well as paraoral diseases.
